Under The Watchful Eye Of Ip Video Surveillance
We have now entered an era where our private lives are no longer private and we are being watched all the time, thanks to the introduction of ip video surveillance. Supporters of this kind of electronic snooping would aver that this is the need of the hour. There are an equal number of people who oppose the whole idea of tracking the movements of the citizens of a state at all times. Whatever may be the arguments for or against any form of surveillance, there is no doubt that with the increasing levels of crime, one is left with no alternative but to submit to surveillance of some sort.
The whole idea of ip video surveillance is a giant leap from the surveillance protocols that were in place a couple of years ago. IP which stands for Internet Protocol is in use today because of the high levels of sophistication and ease of operation. When compared to the earlier analog surveillance techniques, the currently used ip video surveillance techniques are way ahead. In order to understand the superiority of this system it would be useful to know how exactly the two work in a practical situation.
In earlier times, before the introduction of ip video surveillance, there existed an interconnected system of CCTVs and a central hub that recorded all the information that was recorded on these machines. The information would be recorded on tapes and could be used only at a later date. Real time usage was difficult to achieve. All this changed with the introduction of digital cameras and video recorders. As part of the new surveillance system, these cameras and recorders were located at strategic view points and the information recorded was relayed without any time loss. This took sleuthing and security to an entirely new level.
Apart from being able to record or intercept sensitive data, ip video surveillance ensured that the data received could be acted upon, almost instantaneously. This was because the information received through digital cameras and recorders could be transmitted in little or no time to any destination in the world, through the Internet. It is therefore not quite surprising that this technology quickly replaced the analog based technology of the past. The speed of intercepting sensitive information is such a crucial factor that there is no doubt that ip video surveillance is the favorite now. Various forms of this kind of surveillance are in place right now in various offices, public places and other sensitive areas. However, there is growing discontent among the general public that this kind of electronic snooping is very intrusive. Every facet of life, both private and public, is under scrutiny at all times. There is also a lot of concern about the formidable costs of setting up an ip video surveillance system. This has to be factored when providing security at all times.
