Life Is Not Possible Without Digital Video Surveillance
Just as every other field has made huge strides in development, digital video surveillance has transformed the whole face of the surveillance industry. Earlier on, CCTV and cameras were used and the same were connected to a central node or hub to ensure that all the information that was collected was stored for later use and analysis. This was not considered quite effective in the solving of crimes for one simple reason. The investigating agencies could have a look at the crime scene only after the occurrence of the same. They were not in a position to keep track of what happened at the precise time.
All this has now become a thing of the past with the introduction of digital video surveillance. The process is fairly simple and is a great improvement on the analog protocols that were in use some years ago. All the equipment that is used is digitally operated and is therefore capable of handling a lot of information. The system is so advanced that people who are sitting nowhere near the crime scene can keep a watch on the suspicious movements of people even before a crime actually takes place.
In a very advanced form of digital video surveillance there are sensors that are installed that can actually pick up a person or a group of persons who are behaving in a strange manner even in a crowded place. Psychologists and experts in the field of surveillance and security have been able to compile data on what constitutes strange behavior that can very often be the forerunner of serious criminal offences. Even when in a crowd, these people unknowingly exhibit these traits which are then picked up by sensors and other covert digital surveillance equipment. As soon as this happens, the person can be picked up for questioning and some sterner forms of interrogation, before any serious acts of vandalism or terror are perpetrated.
In case the information acquired by means of the digital video surveillance is not used immediately, the same can be stored for further use without any problem. In earlier times, when the analog processes were in vogue, information had to be stored on bulky tapes. Now this can be avoided because most of the equipment has inbuilt high density writers that keep recording every single bit of audio and video information for transcription at a later date. The question now that is foremost in the minds of many people all over the world is whether this kind of digital video surveillance is necessary or not. The governments of most countries have made the installation of surveillance equipment mandatory. This has led to some serious ethical issues that have become hot debating topics all over the world. Is surveillance a necessary intrusion into your privacy? The answer to this is not an easy one and needs to be approached without any bias.
