Covert Video Surveillance

Covert Video Surveillance Has Become Necessary

The very idea of having covert video surveillance installed in the area in which you live or work seems to be the most discomfiting thought that could ever be. Over the years, security has become a prime concern for every person. People do not feel safe either in their homes or in their work places. The phrase: safety of your homes seems to no longer exist. The point of debate is whether or not this kind of security and surveillance is really necessary.

When one talks of covert video surveillance, what comes to the mind is a network of hidden cameras, sensors and trackers that keep a close tab on the people who move in and out of an area. In the last couple of years, the word terrorism has ceased to be something that was related only to places like Iran, Ireland or Afghanistan. It now seems to have become a household word after the twin towers were targeted. Terrorist strikes have taken on such frightening proportions that it is difficult to even understand the ways and means by which a person can actually cope with living in such trying times.

In many places today, where there is a lot of movement of the people, an airport for instance, covert video surveillance is an inevitable part of the infrastructure. Most of the security agencies that are responsible for surveillance activities have installed high-end cameras, sophisticated digital video recorders, sensors and much more to combat the ever increasing crime rate.

What is most surprising is that every time a new innovation comes along in the field of covert video surveillance, there are equally innovative ideas and machines found to combat the same. One can safely say that the mind of an individual bent on creating panic and terror is far more superior to that of a person who has altruistic ideas of safety and security. Some of the most wanted terrorists in every country turn out to be very intelligent people who constantly use their brain power for every negative purpose imaginable.

It is not always easy to determine what kind of covert video surveillance is necessary in a place. This depends to a large extent on the space to be covered, the type and number of people who might be passing through the area within a specified period of time, the urgency with which this surveillance system needs to be introduced and above all the cost of installing the system.

All equipment that forms part of a covert video surveillance system is extremely expensive. Since the area to be covered is usually quite large, the organization, whether government owned or otherwise, needs to do some serious financial planning and budgeting before embarking on a project of providing good surveillance systems. Security agencies are well equipped to deal with any kind of requirement and budget.
